IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. -- North Carolina Highway Patrol said two people have died in separate crashes involving tractor-trailers on I-40 near Statesville, early Saturday morning.
Officials say the first crash happened around 4:30 a.m. when a car lost control on I-40 and hit the median. The car was then hit by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer later died. The two occupants of the car were transported to a local hospital.
Officials say charges are pending.
The second crash happened around 8:30 a.m. among the traffic from the first crash, according to officials.
A motorcycle driver hit a tractor-trailer from behind and died.
Names of the victims have not yet been released.
