Hornets host annual Day of Service for Charlotte
The Hornets hosted their annual Day of Service on Monday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The sounds of hammers, saws and dozens of arms painting, dusting and everything in between as the Hornets took the city of Charlotte by swarm on Monday.

The Hornets spent the better part of the day reaching out to the community for its annual Day of Service.

"We are pleased to be a part of this community," said Hornets owner Michael Jordan. "I said five years ago when I bought this team that we wanted to be a part of this community...helping our vets is a great way to do it."

Once again the Volunteers with Hornets, Fox Sports Carolinas, SportSouth and Bank of America went out in the community on several projects including: Packing 3,000 Car Kits - which contain food essentials for area homeless vets and veterans in need.

Refurbishing the Veteran Resource Center on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College.

Volunteers also spend time renovating the house of Vietnam Vet John Drakeford.

"This is great," Drakeford said as dozens of workers worked on several projects in his house in the Wesley Heights neighborhood.
"I thank them all."

The Hornets also donated 250,000 to CPCC's Veteran Employment Fund, which helps to provide paid internships to veterans as they return from active service.
