HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — One person has been killed in a crash in Huntersville, Medic reports.

According to officials, the crash happened early Wednesday morning at 11800 McCoy Rd.

According to the Huntersville Police Department, a 2008 GMC SUV was attempting to turn left from McIlwaine Road eastbound to McCoy Road northbound.

The SUV was operated by Elizabeth Labastide Hernandez, 43, of Huntersville.

During this time, a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C50 motorcycle operated by 57-year-old Vincent Alfonzo Aufiero of Huntersville was traveling southbound on McCoy Road.

The GMC turned into the motorcycle's path, police say, resulting in the collision.

Aufiero was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Hernandez was the only person in the SUV, police say. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After she was released, she was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle as well as no operators license.

She was transported to the Mecklenburg County Intake Center.

McCoy road was closed between Stratton Farm Road and McCoy Road for several hours while police investigated the accident.
