Mother of 3 found stabbed to death, suspect in hospital

New details are coming to light about a gruesome double stabbing and murder in Rock Hill.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – New details are coming to light about a gruesome double stabbing and murder in Rock Hill.

Officers responding to the scene saw a man stabbing himself in the chest. They also found 25-year-old Marandy Brandon, a mother of three, stabbed to death.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday at a home on Barrow Court.

The police report shows the suspect didn’t stop stabbing himself in the chest until police used a Taser. Now, NBC Charlotte is also learning more about the recent history of the two people involved.

By daylight, you could see a child’s bicycle where neighbors saw swarms of police on Monday night.

“It looked like, sad to say, a movie of some sort,” says neighbor, Frances Hammers. “[Police] were just everywhere.”

“We’ve never had any type of murders, it’s always been a very nice neighborhood,” says neighbor, Jasmine Ashford.

What officers first discovered inside the home is also shocking. The police report shows a 26-year-old man carrying a butcher knife was stabbing himself in the chest.

“[Officers] gave him a number of commands to drop the knife, to which lead them actually having to Tase the individual to drop the knife,” says Captain Brent Allmon with the Rock Hill Police Department.

The male suspect was flown to the hospital in critical condition. NBC Charlotte has also learned police responded to a domestic call involving the same two people within the past month.

“Obviously, some unresolved issues there,” says Captain Allmon.

Police say Brandon lived at the home, but they are still investigating the exact relationship she had with the man and how it ended so violently.

“If any events led up before this,” says Captain Allmon. “Was it a break up?”

“That’s a really sad situation especially being so close to home, I’m really shocked,” says Hammers.

No charges have been filed at this point, but it’s an ongoing investigation. It’s the fifth murder of 2017 in Rock Hill.
