Meet WCNC Charlotte reporter Austin Walker

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Austin is a reporter for WCNC Charlotte.

Austin is so excited to be in the Tar Heels State! He joined the team in April 2022 with a passion for state politics, solutions journalism and stories that "make you feel good." 

Most recently, Austin worked in Waco, Texas where he was a reporter and anchor for KXXV 25 News. While in Waco, Austin received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Series for his franchise The Open Conversation

Prior to his time in Waco, he made a stop in the Ole Pueblo -- Tucson, Arizona. While in the Grand Canyon State, he secured two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for the 2020 Presidential Election Coverage. 

He got his start in Columbia, Missouri, where he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2020 (MIZ!!). While at Mizzou, Austin was the lead reporter from KOMU 8's "A Brighter Tomorrow," a franchise dedicated to connecting mid-Missourians to mental health resources and breaking the stigma around leading mental health topics. The team received a Missouri Broadcasters Award for Best Public Service Announcement or Campaign. 

Originally, Austin is from a small town in North Texas. Austin said Charlotte has always been a dream of his, especially WCNC Charlotte.
