North Carolina's Land of Oz theme park to reopen in September for 2024 festival

Autumn at Oz runs the first three weekends in September. Here's when you can get tickets.

BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. — North Carolina's legendary Land of Oz theme park will reopen in September for its 2024 Autumn at Oz event.

The Beech Mountain park based on the iconic "Wizard of Oz" movie announced it will be reopening for tours in September. Visitors can take a trip somewhere over the rainbow with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion on the yellow brick road. This year's event will be a celebration of the film's 85th anniversary.

The park has been closed since the 1980s but still opens a few times each year with hardcore "Oz" fans buying up the tickets to celebrate the iconic film's legacy. Built on top of a mountain, park guests can walk the yellow brick road with the movie's beloved cast of characters, but beware, or you'll run into the Wicked Witch of the West!

The annual Autumn at Oz features the film's characters, live performances, arts and crafts, as well as memorabilia from the movie and numerous food vendors.

Autumn at Oz runs the first three weekends in September. Tickets will go on sale in June, according to the park, but anyone interested in checking it out can sign up for alerts so they don't miss out. Tickets are typically limited for the park's select dates.

Land of Oz operated in the 1970s before closing in 1980. In 1988, a group of original theme park employees brought the park back to life with yearly re-openings and the park has since opened a few times each year to take visitors on a walk down the yellow brick road they won't ever forget.
