Virtual bra fittings for a good cause

Most women wear the wrong size bra.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly 70% of women are wearing the wrong size bra! Why is that?

Lynetta Coleman, a store manager in the lingerie department at Dillard’s at SouthPark Mall, said it’s because our bodies shift and change as we age.

“Oftentimes, we think our bodies have not changed," Coleman said. "We got fitted for a bra in high school, and we’ve worn that same bra size our entire life."

She wants to help every woman in the Charlotte area get into the best bra for their body. She said there is a science to finding the perfect bra, and women need a trained specialist to help them find the perfect fit.

“We have to take classes," Coleman said. "We have product knowledge seminars. At Dillard’s, we even have an app that we use to make sure that we stay on track and are up-to-date on all the newest knowledge when it comes to bra fittings.”

She said there are five fit points that must be considered when buying a new bra:

  1. Your underwire bra needs to be lying flat to the center of your chest
  2. The tip of your underwire should be underneath your armpit and all breast tissue should be inside the cup.
  3. You should have a thumb's worth of space between your bra strap and your shoulder.
  4. The back strap of your bra should sit below your shoulder blades and parallel around your torso.
  5. Your bra should not shift, move, or ride up when you lift your arms.

Even with all five fit points in mind, Coleman said you still need to make an appointment for a professional fitting. Dillard’s offers several different appointment options so that ladies feel comfortable getting sized for this very personal undergarment. There are virtual appointments as well as in-person options available.

Plus, now is the perfect time to get sized for that new bra at Dillard’s because it’s all for a good cause.

“For every bra fitting that we do--or every Wacoal or B.Tempt’d bra that we sell—we’re donating two dollars to breast cancer research in your name,” Coleman said.

She loves her job because she knows that she’s making customers happy.

“If everybody got a good bra fitting, every woman would be smiling," Coleman shared.
