R. Kelly fallout continues Friday night on Dateline NBC

After the release of a six-part documentary on Lifetime, the artist has faced major backlash.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lifetime's docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly" chronicles disturbing accounts of the singer's alleged predatory behavior, including claims of sex with minors and homes filled with sex slaves.

Kelly has denied all the claims, but that hasn't kept people from coming forward with stories of what they say happened.

After the release of the six-part documentary, the artist has faced major backlash. On Friday, Kelly's label, SONY, dropped him.

The hashtag #MuteRKelly has been circling social media in an effort to get radio stations to remove his songs and concert venues to cancel shows.

Andrea Canning spoke with NBC Charlotte about a special airing Friday night about R. Kelly on Dateline.

"His career has taken a hit, and he's not happy about it," Canning told NBC Charlotte's Rachel Lundberg.

Kelly's attorney sat down with Canning in the one-hour broadcast and said that every story is fabricated and all the "survivors" are lying.

"What was that one-on-one like?" Lundberg asked Canning.

"It was a very heated discussion," she said.

A lot of these accusations we've heard for years, so a big question to many is why are we just now seeing action? In fact, R-Kelly was accused of child pornography after a videotape started circulating that appeared to show him having sex with a teenage girl.

But the Grammy-award winning singer was acquitted of 21 charges of child pornography in 2008. He denied all claims and continued to rack up hits and sell out stadiums around the country.

Since the Lifetime docu-series aired this month, ongoing protests and conversations surrounding the allegations revealed in the series is why Dateline started digging into the story themselves.

"We sat down with a number of accusers," Canning said. "They say they were brainwashed. That it was like a cult. One woman called him the devil."

"Accused: The R. Kelly Story" airs on Dateline NBC at 10 p.m. Friday.
