ASHEBORO, N.C. — Officials with the North Carolina Zoo announced Sunday that one of their chimpanzees is expecting.
Amy, the chimpanzee, is 35 and was born at the zoo, according to the announcement. Zoo officials say she has given birth at the zoo before.
"Our veterinary team is working hand in hand with the animal care staff to monitor the development of Amy’s baby through behavioral training, and we are excited to take you all on this journey with us," the Facebook post said.
Gerre, another chimpanzee at the zoo, welcomed baby Obi in March.
