Eyebrow etching is latest beauty trend

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Inside GLOSS Beauty Studio, Mindi Bergman is giving her clients what nature did not: thicker, darker, perfectly shaped eyebrows.

She’s trained in the art of Microblading, or 3-D brow embroidery - a semi-permanent procedure, where a hand tool is used to etch pigment into the skin.

"We're just using a tiny little blade made out of a series of tiny needles,” Bergman said. “With this procedure, rather than giving a solid brow like with permanent makeup, we're trying to create hair strokes."

The strokes are shallow, so the pigment doesn’t go deep into the skin and the color exfoliates away after a year or two.

"You can change it completely, and you're not stuck with these brows for the rest of your life,” Bergman said.

Before and after photos show dramatic results, even when the clients began with sparse eyebrow hair or none at all.

“It's perfect for anybody who has over-tweezed, or isn't really happy with the shape they were naturally given, and some people don't have eyebrows at all, with different medical conditions,” Bergman said. "It's not a small thing for us, when it comes to eyebrows. It's a really big deal."

The procedure takes about 2 hours and costs $450. For more information, visit Bergman’s website.
