ROCK HILL, S.C. — South Carolina Education Lottery officials say a Rock Hill man recently made two important purchases at a local store - one of which gave him a boost while the other did the same for his bank account.

Officials said the man stopped at Gee-Gee's Food Store on Saluda Street in Rock Hill to get some coffee and decided to buy a ticket for "The Big $pin" lottery game.

He told lottery officials he was in a hurry so he went ahead and scratched off the barcode and then scanned it in the store. It simply said "Claim at Lottery" so he scratched off the rest.

That's when he learned he was about to be roughly $300,000 richer.

The winner described overcoming 1 in 1,080,000 odds in the $10 game as nothing short of "a blessing."

The Gee Gee's Food Store owners might agree with that sentiment, as the store also received a $3,000 commission for selling the winner. Lottery officials said three more top prizes remain.
