These 4 chores can make your house more valuable

Improving the exterior of your home could increase its value but you have to know which projects are worth the effort.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Home improvement projects can make a major difference when it comes to the value of your home.

Did you know that focusing on the exterior can be beneficial when it comes time to sell your home? Here are four exterior home improvement projects that will add value, according to Realtor.com

1. Clean up

It might seem too simple to matter, but real estate experts say a thorough cleaning can add value to your home. It pays to rake leaves, pull weeds and prune bushes and shrubs on your property.

2. Power wash

Whether you hire someone to do it or rent a power washer to tackle the task yourself, cleaning the outside of your house has its benefits. Power washing not only adds value, but it can also remove mold, mildew, pollen and dirt.

3. Add plants

You don’t have to go overboard on landscaping to add value. Add low-maintenance perennials that will last throughout the year.

4. Paint the front door

Realtor.com says a fresh coat of paint on the front door is a simple way to refresh the look of your home while adding value. Use exterior grade paint and don’t be afraid of color, just make sure it matches the style of your home.
