Survey: North Carolina is the state most obsessed with Amazon

Nearly 70% of North Carolinian respondents are obsessed with Amazon, TransImpact survey finds.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A nationwide survey found North Carolina has the shoppers most obsessed with shopping on Amazon.

TransImpact, a North Carolina-based company specializing in technology and shipping, found North Carolina has a 69.89% obsession score, the highest of any state in their survey. South Carolina was among their general average.

North Carolina was one of many other states in the East and South heavily dependent on Amazon.

"Perhaps the rural nature of Southern living and slower lifestyle make it more appealing to have Amazon handle the shipping rather than commuting for the purchase," TransImpact wrote of their findings.

To obtain their results, TransImpact surveyed at least 50 people from each state. The survey asked shoppers to answer questions, including ranking from 1 to 5 how obsessed with Amazon they were.

The survey also found a majority of Americans take advantage of other Amazon services such as Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music.

The states that demonstrate the most restraint from shopping on Amazon are largely in the American Northwest., the survey found.

Amazon has over 800,000 employees, including those working at operations facilities, tech hubs, and corporate offices.

As of April, Amazon operates eight fulfillment centers in North Carolina, including two in Charlotte.

Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 27,000 full- and part-time jobs in North Carolina and has invested more than $2.1 billion across the state, according to Amazon. The company said those investments have contributed more than $1.9 billion in GDP to the state's economy and have created over 9,100 indirect jobs on top of direct Amazon hires.

Amazon is one of the few retailers that has benefited from the pandemic. As physical stores temporarily closed, people stuck at home turned to Amazon to buy groceries, cleaning supplies, and more. That doesn't seem to be dying down.
