Police investigating after two arsons at the same apartment complex

Flames broke out around 4:30 a.m. at the Hunters Pointe apartments in the Hidden Valley neighborhood near Reagan Drive.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Fire Department is investigating a 2 alarm apartment fire in the 2100 block of Prospect Drive.

Charlotte Fire determined that it was intentionally set, with damage estimates at $75,000. CMPD is taking over the investigation at this point, officials say.

It's the second arson at that apartment complex in a month.

Flames broke out around 4:30 a.m. at the Hunters Pointe apartments in the Hidden Valley neighborhood near Reagan Drive.

According to CFD, it took 50 firefighters to get the blaze under control in 40 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Crews did rescue a dog from the building which is expected to be okay.

Sandy, a mother and neighbor, said she’s afraid there will be another arson and someone will get hurt.

“I feel scared because I have my family and everything,” Sandy said.

Police are still searching for who set the last fire at the complex back on March 17. That fire forced a family of five out of their home and caused $200,000 in damage.

At this time, no word on if the two cases are related.

“Someone’s going to do harm one of these days to everyone in this place and it’s going to be so bad,” said Patience Gray, a neighbor.

“If they can find the person, that would be good,” Gray said.

NBC Charlotte asked CMPD if the latest arson is connected to any other crimes, including the March arson at the same apartment complex. At this point, CMPD has not released any information about if it’s connected to past cases. Currently, there’s no word on any arrests.

Police say if you have any information about the case to call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
