Church in Charlotte starts GoFundMe to help those impacted by shutdown

Organizers say they want to help those who won't be paid until the government reopens.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte church is helping those impacted by the government shutdown.

New Outreach Christian Center started a GoFundMe page for families in need.

Organizers say their program has been helping people make ends meet for a while, but right now they want to help those who won't be paid until the government reopens.

Pastor Brenda Stevenson with the New Outreach Christian Center is passionate about helping those in the community.

"Think of a child that may need a prescription ... or a parent that may need their medicines and can't get it," Pastor Stevenson said. "We're not going to live like this. You know what would make America great again? This is how we make it great -- by being there for the people."

As of 10 a.m. Monday, the GoFundMe has raised $3,055 for those in need. Click here to make a donation or for more information.
