Charlotte Immigration Committee to share update at City Council meeting

The committee is looking at ways to create a closer relationship between local immigrants and city leaders.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte leaders are moving forward with plans to help the immigrant community. A committee formed by Mayor Vi Lyles meets Monday.

Lyles put together the committee in February after ICE agents arrested more than 200 people across North Carolina.

Since then, it's been holding community engagement sessions.

The committee is looking at ways to create a closer relationship between local immigrants and city leaders.

The committee plans to put in place a city-wide language access policy.

The policy would communicate and issue resources in up to five different languages.

Their long-term goals include hiring more bilingual employees and diversifying the city's boards and commissions.
