Arrest made after stabbing at App State, police say

App State student Emmet Cardwell has been arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing. Police believe there was also a second person involved.

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University says a stabbing was reported early Thursday afternoon on campus, but the suspects were quickly taken into custody.

A notice posted on the App State Alert website said it was reported just before 12:30 p.m. near Peacock Hall, and that at least one suspect left the area in a black Toyota convertible. Minutes later, the alert said the suspects were in custody.

Police arrested 20-year-old App State student Emmet Cardwell. Cardwell is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, a felony charge.

Police believe there was a second person, also an App State student, involved in the incident. That person has been interviewed but has not been charged with a crime.
