A broken window is seen on a CATS bus after a shooting near South Tryon Street in Charlotte Friday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department determined a CATS bus was damaged after being struck by a rock Friday night.

Around 9 p.m., officers responded to what they thought was a possible shooting that damaged a CATS bus near the intersection of South Tryon Street and Remount Road. After detectives reviewed two surveillance videos, interviewed the driver, and examined the evidence, officers determined that the bus was not shot into. Instead, it was struck by a rock, causing the damage to the window.

The Route 16 bus traveled southbound on South Tryon Street towards the CATS transit facility, where arriving officers met the driver and passengers.

Neither the driver or the 5 passengers on the bus were injured, a CATS spokesperson told WCNC Charlotte.

"It does not appear that anyone was specifically being targeted," said Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Lieutenant Andy Harris, a spokesperson for the agency.

CMPD is continuing the incident as a damage to property case. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
