CMPD has additionally arrested 23-year-old Khalil Dante Capers in connection to the death of Sherwood. Police report Capers was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

CMPD initially said there were drugs at the scene; however, they did not confirm if the shooting was drug-related. Also, one of the vehicles related to the investigation had a dog in it, so animal control was called to the scene to take the animal.

Friends of Sherwood set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. He would have turned 22 on December 10.
