CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The person who shot and killed a young man in west Charlotte remains on the loose.
21-year-old Zach Finch was a college baseball player. On Tuesday, his brother spoke out asking the public to help solve the murder.
Family members say Finch was trying to buy a cell phone using an app when he was gunned down on Sunday.
Nicholas Finch said his brother, Zach, did not have any enemy in the world. It’s raised a lot of questions about what happened. CMPD says someone out there has the answers.
Nicholas Finch brought a photo of Zach to the news conference on Tuesday.
“I just want to share a few things about my brother,” says Nicholas.
Finch was speaking at the apartment complex where his brother, Zach, was murdered on Father’s Day. Zach is from Florida, but police say his parents live in the Charlotte area. He has a full ride baseball scholarship to the University of Cumberlands in Kentucky.
“He was a team player. He always motivated everyone around him. They really cared about him,” says Nicholas.
Family members told NBC Charlotte Zach was trying to buy a cell phone through the LetGo app when the people tried to rob him.
“There’s windows, there’s parks, there’s kids playing. People are outside so we know somebody has information,” says Sergeant Susan Manassah with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police did not release details about what exactly led up to the murder, but they are urging extra caution for others meeting someone through social media.
“Tell people where you’re going, what it is you’re doing. If it’s too good to be true, then it’s not real. You hear that, but it needs to hit home to people,” says Sergeant Manassah.
“I know it sounds cliché that he was a good kid, but he really was,” says Nicholas Finch. “The kid didn’t have an enemy in the world.”
His brother is remembering Zach’s winning attitude while dealing with a tremendous loss.
“Bring whoever did this to justice,” says Nicholas Finch.

Police say if you have any information on the case call 911 or Crimestoppers. They’re offering up to a $5,000 reward in the case.
