Person killed in east Charlotte shooting identified as 17-year-old

CMPD said the scene along Boswell Road is being investigated as a homicide.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person has died after a reported shooting in an east Charlotte neighborhood Friday evening.

Medic and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed they responded to Boswell Road just before 7 p.m., which is in a neighborhood north of Albemarle Road. One person was declared dead at the scene.

That person was identified on Sunday as 17-year-old Kaleb Brown.

CMPD later said Brown died of a gunshot wound, and that the initial call was for an assault with a deadly weapon. A homicide investigation is now underway.

As of publication, there is no word on the suspect's identity. 

About an hour before responding to Boswell Road, both Medic and CMPD also responded to a death investigation on Upas Lane, just less than three miles southwest.
