Man charged with murder after shooting near Shelby bar

Cleveland County EMS responded and transported him for medical care, but he later died as a result of his injuries.

SHELBY, N.C. — The Shelby Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting near a Shelby bar Sunday morning.

Gavonne Antonio Craig, 43, was charged with murder in connection to the shooting. He is currently being held without bond at the Cleveland County Jail.

Police report a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a bar, according to the Shelby Police Department.

Officers with SPD responded to the area of 1138 East Marion Street, the Golden Boys Bar, in reference to shots fired. When they arrived, they found Joshua Lewis McSwain, 27, with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. 

Police say the call came in around 2:35 a.m.

He was lying in the parking lot, officials say.
