CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The death of a person who was hit by a car in northwest Charlotte early Friday is being investigated as a homicide, detectives said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were called to a crash involving a pedestrian along Brookshire Boulevard, near Interstate 85, around 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been hit by a car lying in the road. The victim, who hasn't been identified, was pronounced dead by the officers.
CMPD officers searched the area for witnesses and determined the man was "mortally wounded" before collapsing on the road and being run over. Investigators noted that the man's injuries weren't consistent with those of someone who is hit by a vehicle.
Brookshire Boulevard was closed between North Crigler Street and I-85 while CMPD investigated the crash and looked for any potential witnesses.
CMPD hasn't released any suspect information or announced any arrests. The investigation is still in the early stages. Anyone with information is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Witnesses may also call 704-432-TIPS to speak directly with homicide detectives. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and anyone who gives information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
