Officers said 55-year-old Sureita Anelia Samuels was found unresponsive in a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police they heard gunshots and saw someone enter a black Dodge Ram pickup truck before leaving. Video surveillance was gathered from the nearby Walgreens to further confirm who the suspect was.

Police named 53-year-old Rahman Akbar Ferguson of Charlotte as the suspect. He and Samuels knew each other. Officers also said they learned Ferguson had driven north and was traveling through Virginia.
