Police: South Iredell High School student had a gun, knife on campus

According to police, the student checked into late to school and administrators had suspected that he might be under the influence.

The Troutman Police Department reports a 17-year-old high school student had a gun, knife and drug paraphernalia in his car while on school grounds.

According to police, the student checked into late to school and administrators had suspected that he might be under the influence.

School administrators determined that the student was under the influence of an impairing substance and as a result, school administrator along with School Resource Officer Devin Bentley searched the student’s vehicle. The search yielded a . 25 caliber handgun (altered serial number), a knife, and drug paraphernalia. The student has been issued disciplinary action in accordance with Iredell-Statesville Schools discipline policy.

The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm with altered serial number, possession of a weapon on school grounds carry concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
