Man arrested in Alexander County after police say they found two 'live' explosives in his home

The explosives were found near a home along Millersville Church Road on Monday morning, deputies said.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Officers in Alexander County responded to a call about stolen property on Sunday night, but they located something much more dangerous at the home.

While searching the home on Fowler Road, officers also found a possible explosive device. Police secured the scene and requested the help of the Wilkes County Bomb Squad, who arrived at the home Monday morning.

The Alexander County Sheriff's Office said the item was found along Millersville Church Road. The house is near Millersville Christian Academy. A spokesperson for the school confirmed it closed Monday as a precaution. The device was not found at the school.

Bomb technicians found that the explosive device was live. They rendered it safe but found a second explosive shortly after. Later Monday, police and arrested 31-year-old Alan Goins.

Goins has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, along with multiple other charges.

WCNC Charlotte has reached out to the school for more information. No further details were provided by Alexander County deputies.
