OAKBORO, N.C. A local woman is accused of embezzling more than $70,000 from her local church.
Barbara Williams Hatley of Oakboro was arrested on February 27 after police say she embezzled money from West Oakboro Baptist Church.
Hatley, 48, is the treasurer at the church, according to the Stanly County Sheriff s Office.
Police believe Hatley wrote several checks on the church s checking account into her own name and that she had been doing so over the course of several years.
Hatley was arrested six days after the church reported the incident to police, and Hatley was placed behind bars on a $50,000 secured bond.
She is due to appear in court on March 12.
