18-year-old killed in Troutman double shooting, police say

The victims were found at the Food Lion on North Main Street in Troutman, police said.

TROUTMAN, N.C. — An 18-year-old was killed and another person was hurt in a shooting in Troutman Saturday evening, police confirmed. 

The victims, 18-year-old Alexander Hipple and 20-year-old Zachary Craig, showed up at the Food Lion on North Main Street in Troutman after they were both shot while driving along Mills Avenue. Hipple, who was from Mooresville, was pronounced dead when first responders arrived on the scene. Craig was taken to the hospital and has since been released, Troutman police said. 

Chief John Watson told WCNC Charlotte it was reported to officers around 8:25 p.m. When officers arrived, Craig was talking to them and explained what happened.

The department is still investigating along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Troutman detectives and SBI agents are following up on several leads but no suspect information has been released at this time and no arrests have been made.
