CMS mourns passing of middle school teacher

School counselors have been made available during the school day to assist students.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Crestdale Middle School teacher died unexpectedly, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools shared Monday.

Joe Driscoll, who taught 8th grade social studies at the middle school in Matthews, died from a medical condition, the school district shared in a message to families. They did not share what medical condition caused his unexpected death. 

"When an event of this magnitude touches one of us, it affects us all," the school message says. "If you share this news with others please be mindful that their reactions may be ones of shock, sadness or disbelief."

School counselors have been made available during the school day to assist students and staff who may need to talk with someone about how they are feeling. 

"Please continue to keep Mr. Driscoll’s family and the Crestdale Middle School family in your thoughts and prayers," the message says.

As of publication, memorial arrangements have not been shared.
