List | Five schools to dismiss early on Friday due to All-Star weekend

CMS says they are doing this in order to help ensure safe transportation for students and staff.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Five Charlotte schools will dismiss students early on Friday due to the NBA All-Star weekend in Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced.  This comes in the wake of All-Star Weekend, which is expected to bring heavy traffic and road closures.

The following schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, February 15:

  • Chantilly Montessori School
  • Elizabeth Traditional Elementary
  • First Ward Creative Arts Academy
  • Irwin Academic Center
  • Metro School

All other CMS schools will dismiss at normal time on Friday, Feb. 15.

CMS says they are doing this in order to help ensure safe transportation for students and staff.

CMS consulted with the City of Charlotte Department of Transportation and law enforcement ahead of the decision.

In a statement, CMS said, "The primary concern areas are Independence near Bojangle’s Arena and the uptown area around the time for CMS afternoon dismissals in or near these areas."

The after-school care program ASEP will continue for students at these schools.
