UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies in Union County are investigating a death after a body was found behind the bleachers of the Piedmont High School football stadium Friday.
Detectives were called to Piedmont High School around 9 a.m. Friday after students found an unresponsive person, later identified as 19-year-old Cody Simpson, lying in a ditch behind the stadium bleachers.
Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say the official cause of Simpson's death has not been determined as of Saturday night.
