Belmont police investigating shooting

This was not a random act of violence, police said.

BELMONT, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was shot in Belmont on Saturday morning. 

The shooting happened in an apartment at 23 Alice Avenue around 6 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who was identified as Andres Contreras Cervantes. He had been shot, police said. 

Cervantes was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Initial evidence gathered during the investigation shows the shooting involved "known acquaintances" and was not a random act of violence.

Detectives with the Belmont Police Department are actively investigating the shooting.
