More than a foot of snow falls in Hickory, N.C.

According to the Catawba County Emergency Services, the main calls they got on Sunday were to help stranded drivers.

HICKORY, N.C. — The roads are still treacherous in Hickory, but that hasn't stopped people from bracing the snow.

"There's no business like snow business," one resident said.

Catawba County has been on the forefront of a winter storm stronger than many say they've seen in a long time.

"You barely have boots high enough to cover it," another resident said.

Even with the storm, people are not letting the snow keep them stuck inside. Some people used the clear roads to walk around the town and get fresh air, others road bicycles despite slippery roads.

According to the Catawba County Emergency Services, the main calls they got on Sunday were in reference to helping stranded drivers and motorists get to a safer location.

At the high on Sunday, Catawba County had about 1,000 outages but number has since significantly dropped.
