Man accused of raping woman on greenway trail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man accused of sexual assault that occurred on the McAlpine Greenway Tuesday afternoon.

Tenedrick Strudwick was charged with first-degree forcible rape, armed robbery, two counts of first-degree forcible sex offense, first-degree kidnapping and possession of marijuana.

The victim told officers that she was walking on a greenway trail located in the 7400 block of Terrace Drive with her dog when a man stopped to talk with her about her dog. The suspect then took a sock out of his pocket and struck the victim several times in the head with an unknown blunt object that was inside of the sock, police said.

The suspect then dragged the victim to a wooded area and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

The victim was able to get back to the trail and sought assistance from a citizen, who called 911, police said.

Responding officers broadcasted a description of the suspect. A short time later, officers located a suspect matching the description in the 10600 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Officers also located the victim’s cell phone on the suspect.

The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center by Medic for treatment.
