Around 3 p.m., Monroe police said they spotted David Brooks, who has outstanding warrants for violating a domestic protection order. When officers tried to pull Brooks over for a traffic stop, Brooks kept going, leading to a police chase.

During that time, a detective with the Monroe Police Department began negotiations with Brooks. Brooks eventually pulled his car over, but locked his doors, refusing to exit. He told police that he had a gun in his car but didn't want to hurt anyone.

After more negotiations, officers took Brooks into custody without incident shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Brook has been charged with the following crimes:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Possession of a stolen firearm.
  • Obtaining property by false pretenses.
  • Misdemeanor fleeing to elude
  • Two felony possession of a gun on educational property
  • Possession of a firearm in violation of a domestic violence order.

This is an ongoing investigation.
