Police officer, wife dead in murder-suicide

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide involving an off-duty Statesville police officer.

IREDELLCOUNTY, N.C. -- The Iredell County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide involving an off-duty Statesville policeofficer.

Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson confirmed that the two people found dead on Whitetail Road off Cooper Farm Road were Robert and Heather Przasyki. Robert Przasyki was an officer with his department for three years.

Wednesday evening police confirmed that Robert shot and killed Heather and then turned the gun on himself. The couple had separated and was in the process of getting a divorce.

The shooting happened just north of Statesville, near where Interstate 77 and Interstate 40 connect.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a call shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday about a man and woman lying outside a house on Whitetail Road. When first responders got there, the man and woman were pronounced dead.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Rick Dowdle said there were two boys, ages of 4 and 7, inside the house when the shooting happened. He said he didn't think they witnessed the shootings.

According to witnesses, Heather had gone to Robert's house to pick up the children when she was killed.

Anderson, who along with Assistant Police Chief Bill Halliburton, came to the scene, said he was stunned.

It's incomprehensible, he said.

The sheriff's office has not responded to any domestic calls involving the couple, Dowdle said.

Detectives are still waiting on final autopsy results, including toxicology.
