CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Randall Kerrick trial enters week two of testimony in the shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell.

Monday morning those supporting Ferrell's family held a rally outside the Mecklenburg County Courthouse as a part of the nation's "Day of Action."

The group is meeting not just for Ferrell, but for Michael Brown, the unarmed black man shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer, and others who lost their lives. They say they want three things: "to stand in solidarity, bring awareness, and affect social change."

Jeremiah Chapman says the fear started when he was just five.

"My mother just being ridiculed by a police officer and I'm looking out the back window and that's probably my first memory of law enforcement," Chapman said.

That fear stayed with him for 20 years.

"Even if I'm just driving down the street there's still that innate fear that grips me when a police officer pulls up behind me."

That's why Chapman joined this group Monday morning, to pray for the families who've lost loved ones.

Another group member, Reia Chapman said, "We want people in the community to not just focus on Ferguson because that's kind of the spark of all of this, but to become involved in Charlotte's community and to support this family.

The Ferrell family also joined the group.

"A lot of people understand that there's a Jonathan Ferrell in their household there's a Jonathan Ferrell walking down their street, and we don't want any more Jonathan Ferrell's getting killed," Jonathan's brother, Willie Ferrell said.

The family says they're not asking for sympathy.

"You can't give me sympathy, my child is gone, I just want justice," Georgia Ferrell said.

They hope it sparks change for the future.

The group has events planned throughout the day. This afternoon they're heading to a speak-in for young adults just to really open the conversation surrounding the trial.

This evening they plan to have a die-in followed by a showing of the movie, "Ferguson."
