Employee washes hands with gloves on in Restaurant Report Card

A variety of violations make up three B grades on this week's report.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — We begin this week's Restaurant Report Card with Dunkin' Donuts at Colony and Rea Roads.

This is a popular South Park location, and they had some issues during their last inspection. For one thing, an employee grabbed some money then gloved up with dirty hands and began to pack donuts.

No handwashing is a frequent violation in these inspection reports, and it was noted here, too. It was also discovered they only wash utensils to make specialty coffee at the end of the day, not every four hours which is required.

Some of their milk and cream was not dated; the person in charge didn’t even know when they were opened. The grade at Dunkin' was 88; that’s a B. A re-inspection on February 27 resulted in a grade of 96.5 (A).

Next up, China Express on Polk St. in Pineville. They had cabbage and rice noodles that were too warm when they should have been cold. They were tossed out.

There were wings out with no start or end time; they only have a four-hour window. And the inspector noted the whole place needed to be cleaned. The grade at China Express was 86; that’s a B.

Last up, the Tropical Bakery and Café on Monroe Road. One employee washed his hands with gloves on, while someone else was bare handling food like cheese and bread. That food was tossed out.

There was parmesan cheese with green and black debris on it, and some yogurt was covered with green and white debris That stuff too thrown out. The grade at Tropical was 81.5, a very low B.
