CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rayquan Borum admitted Monday to killing a man by shooting him in the head during protests in uptown.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Borum Friday after evidence gathered led police to identify Borum as the suspect accused of shooting and killing a protester in uptown Charlotte on Wednesday.
He was charged in the deadly shooting of 26-year-old Justin Carr.
Carr was shot around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East Trade Street as police in riot gear protected an upscale hotel in downtown Charlotte.
After the shooting, protesters began throwing bottles, dirt clods and fireworks at the officers. The police fired flash grenades and then tear gas back, dispersing the crowd of several hundred.
But large groups continued marching around downtown, protesting the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. They were followed by police in riot gear who continued to fire tear gas at them.
Other charges Borum faces include possession of firearm by felon and fugitive/extradition other state.
His bond hearing will be on October 5 and preliminary hearing on October 17.
