Alcohol and speed contributing factors in woman's deadly crash with digital board, troopers say

The crash happened on US 321 on April 19 in Caldwell County.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A woman died days after her car flipped over following a crash with a digital message board, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said on Monday.

Jessie Bruce, 30, died on Monday after being injured in a crash on US 321 near Mission Road in Caldwell County on Friday, April 19 around 10:50 p.m.

Investigators say Bruce was driving a 2014 Mazda 6 when she went off the side of the road and struck a digital message board and the guardrail before flipping over.

Bruce was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, according to NCSHP. An investigation revealed that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in Bruce's crash.

US 321 was closed in the area for around two hours because of the crash.

This crash is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
