CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The City of Charlotte is getting more police officers.

City Council approved their 2017 budget proposal Monday night, which includes money to hire 63 new officers.

The budget also includes a plan to increase the city's minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020.

The budget avoids a property tax increase, but it does include an almost $3 increase on water and sewer bills, and an $8 increase to the annual garbage fee for homeowners and apartment tenants.
