CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- She starts her day with a green smoothie and she even named it after herself.

I call this a Hari shake, laughed Charlotte's Vani Hari.

And her passion for food is contagious.

Hari's shake may be an acquired taste, but the South Mecklenburg High School and UNC Charlotte graduate isn't trying to impress food critics. Hari is on to bigger things. Next week, the daughter of two immigrants from India, will be a North Carolina delegate at the DNC.

If there was one food on the planet that I'd want to eat if I was alone on a deserted island, it would be kale, she said.

It's fun, she said as she prepared an organic breakfast from her uptown skyrise.

It will be Hari's second convention, and she hopes she'll have another shot to see the President.

Last time he recognized me because I had done so much campaigning and he gave me a kiss, she laughed.

This time around though, she admits she has serious business she'd like to discuss. She wants to talk food with the President and other politicians, specifically genetically modified food.

They're selling us genetically altered ingredients because they want to make a profit and our health is deteriorating, she said.

From her condominium, Hari blogs to more than 75,000 followers per month.

I'm right now putting on a boycott of several companies, she said.

She has a message she believes we all need to hear.

I don't feel that there's enough emphasis given to fruits and vegetables and enough money given to organic farmers, she said.

Hari has traveled the world spreading her message, but she believes next week in Charlotte she'll have her biggest chance yet to champion her cause.

I'd love to see Michelle Obama come here and I'd make her this, she said as she sipped her Vani smoothie made from only organic ingredients.
