Trump hush money trial boosts campaign fundraising to key win over Biden

The former [resident's legal woes seem to be flushing his campaign with cash.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former President Donald Trump's hush money trial may impact his chances of winning the 2024 election, but it's also having a huge impact on his campaign's fundraising.

On the first day of Trump's criminal trial, his campaign raised more than $361,000 in individual donations, according to the Wall Street Journal. The report also says that fundraising contributed to more than $76 million in total contributions last month.

Numbers like this helped give Trump his first monthly win over President Joe Biden, with Trump's campaign and related committees raising more money than Biden's camp. Still, Biden appeared to have more money left to spend than his Republican counterpart.

Taking a look at each candidate's fundraising, here's where they stack up. Biden's campaign reported raising $24.2 million in April, ending the month with $84.5 million cash.

Meanwhile, Trump's campaign raised $9.4 million, ending April with $49 million.

As for the case itself, Trump's alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels have been in the limelight for months. Trump is on trial for 34 felony counts of falsifying business records with the former president being accused of hiding alleged payments to Daniels to keep quiet about an affair.

The trial began on April 15 and is expected to hear closing arguments as soon as next Tuesday.
