Union County lawmaker supporting bill to increase fines for work zone speeders

Dean Arp's proposal also includes a new work zone safety course for new drivers.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A Union County lawmaker is supporting legislation to increase the financial penalty for drivers who speed inside construction work zones on state highways.

State Rep. Dean Arp is supporting legislation to increase the work zone speeding fine from $250 to $5,000. In addition to the increased fines, Arp's proposal also includes a new work zone safety course for new drivers.

"I’m proud to be supporting a provision to help increase the safety of the hardworking men and women who build and maintain our highways," Arp wrote on Facebook.
