GOOD NEWS! 8-year-old Jacksonville girl found safe

Alayjah Bridges, 8, is safe.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 8-year-old Jacksonville girl has been found safe Saturday after she was reported missing out of the Urban Core neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

A Missing Child Alert was issued for Alayjah Bridges after she was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday leaving the 1800 block of West 9th Street to go to the Dallas James Graham Library. After the child was found Saturday evening, Bridges' grandmothers told First Coast News the little girl had stayed the night at a friends house without telling her parents.

"She went to her friend's house after school ... and she wanted to spend the night," one grandmother said. "She basically told her friends that her mother said it was OK for her to spend the night when it wasn't. She was two blocks over from her own house."

It wasn't until Bridges saw herself on the news that she realized people were worried and she needed to call home. She was reported found safe by JSO at 10:40 p.m.
