Greensboro College data breach investigation

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro College said it's handling a recent data breach.

The school said its systems were compromised at the beginning of the school year between Aug. 10, 2023, and Aug. 21, 2023, when it saw that specific computer systems had unauthorized access. 

An investigation found that information such as social security numbers, bank information, and names may have been leaked.

The school said it is working to notify anyone possibly impacted. 

It will add network security and report the incident to law enforcement. 

The school encouraged students to pay close attention to their bank statements for any evidence of fraud. 

What Information Was Involved? 

The categories of data affected vary by individual. Still, they may include your name, Social Security number, driver’s license or state identification number, financial account information, date of birth, passport number, medical information, and health insurance information.

What is Greensboro College Doing?

Greensboro College treats its responsibility to safeguard the information in our possession as a top priority. Upon learning of this event, we investigated and responded to the event, assessed the security of relevant systems, and are now notifying potentially affected individuals. Further, as part of our ongoing commitment to the privacy and security of personal information in our care, we are instituting additional technical safeguards, policies, and procedures. Our response to this event also included prompt reporting to law enforcement and notification to relevant state and federal regulators.
