Sex tape involving minor reported at Whitewater Middle School

Police would not say if the video involves two minors or an adult and a minor.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMs) issued a warning to students and parents after an investigation into a video involving sexual relations with a minor was reported at Whitewater Middle School.

The school district emailed NBC Charlotte a response to the incident:

"It is our understanding that neither the incident nor the video occurred on a CMS campus. CMS would always advise students not to share video and links of inappropriate behavior.  Parents would be advised to check electronic devices often to ensure their children are not involved in inappropriate activity."

According to CMPD report, the incident location points to Whitewater Middle. It goes on to say, on January 24, an officer responded to a sexual exploitation of a minor incident. The reporting person stated video was sent out by a known suspect of a minor having sexual intercourse.

One day after that incident occurred, NBC Charlotte reported on a sex tape being shared on social media in South Carolina. That investigation revealed the possible punishment for sexually exploiting a minor, and it's serious.

"Even if there's consent between the two people, you just can't put that out there," Rock Hill Police Spokesman Mark Bollinger told NBC Charlotte.

In the South Carolina case, a 17-year-old from South Pointe High School is facing up to 30 years in prison for recording himself having sex with a 14-year-old and sharing it on the popular social media app Snapchat.

"All this stuff just alters your life," Bollinger added. "So kids need to think about it, but parents need to talk to their kids about it."

CMPD said the incident regarding Whitewater Middle is an ongoing investigation. Police would not say if the video involves two minors or an adult and a minor.
