South Carolina district considering four-day school week: 5 things to know Monday, May 20

Mooresville Police has completed its investigation into the deadly shooting of Officer Jordan Sheldon, a South Carolina school district is thinking about transitioning to a four-day week to recruit teachers and fans of HBO's series "Game Of Thrones" are moving on after the series finale Sunday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

1. Would a four-day week help recruit teachers? One SC district thinks so

A South Carolina school district is considering a four day school week to help recruit teachers.

Florence County School District Three Superintendent Laura Hickson said she will ask the school board to let her survey parents, teachers and staff on the plan.

Hickson told the Morning News of Florence under the plan students would go to school an extra 90 minutes Monday through Thursday. Students behind academically could come to class some Fridays and get extra help.

2. The homicide investigation into Mooresville K-9 Officer Jordan Sheldon's death is complete

Saturday, May 4, Mooresville K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon was conducting a traffic stop on West Plaza Drive when he was shot by the driver. Officer Sheldon died as a result of those injuries.

Michael Yovany Aldana of Mooresville, the driver of the vehicle, was located in a nearby apartment not long after. He was confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators could not determine a specific motive for the shooting. However, interviews with Aldana's former girlfriend revealed he had made recent comments of killing himself and killing a police officer in the process.

3. After eight seasons, "Game of Thrones" is finally over

Winter has come and winter has gone.

The last of the heads have been lopped off and the last of the dragon fire has been spent as "Game of Thrones" aired its 73rd and final episode Sunday night.

While the results were the usual split decision, there were some clear winners and losers. (Click here for major spoilers)

One thing we will spoil, though, is another editing blunder. A plastic water bottle was spotted during a scene in Sunday's finale and quickly went viral. So there's that.

And if you need someone to talk about it, an online counseling service is here to help fans cope with the show's end. Yes, we're for real.

4. Hot, hot and hotter: The warmest weather of the year is coming to the Carolinas

Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich says we can expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s by the end of the week and there's no end in sight for the heatwave.

It's going to feel like July with the combination of heat and humidity, which will make for a very warm Memorial Day weekend for fans at the NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

5. President Trump tweets 'end of Iran' if it wants a fight

President Donald Trump warned Iran Sunday not to threaten the United States again or it'll face its "official end," shortly after a rocket landed near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad overnight.

Trump's tweet comes after he seemingly sought to soften his tone on Iran following days of heightened tension sparked by a sudden deployment of bombers and an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf over still-unspecified threats.

The tweet from Trump early on Monday, Tehran time, came just hours after a Katyusha rocket fell in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone near the statue of the Unknown Soldier, less than a mile from the U.S. Embassy, causing no injures. Iraqi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasoul told The Associated Press that the rocket was believed to have been fired from east Baghdad. The area is home to Iran-backed Shiite militias.
