Why are more candidates campaigning in North Carolina this year?

This is Harris's second week in a row visiting North Carolina. Last week she was in Raleigh with President Biden on a campaign stop.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Vice President Kamala Harris made another trip to Charlotte this week to discuss the White House's investment in climate action under the Biden administration. 

WCNC Charlotte is looking at how many times she has made stops in North Carolina.

This is Harris's second week in a row visiting North Carolina. Last week she was in Raleigh with President Biden on a campaign stop.

Let’s take a look at her record of visiting our state. Since she took office in 2020, Harris has been here 12 times. This year alone, Harris has stopped in North Carolina four times, two of which were Queen City visits.

"So Donald Trump has been a black swan event that has trickled into North Carolina in very important ways," Huffmon said. 
"So you see the Democrats coming in trying to gin up support in areas like Charlotte, which is one of the fastest-growing Metro communities in the United States." 

Huffmon said this is just the beginning, as we move closer to the election. We'll see even more candidates here in North Carolina since the state is perceived as a battleground, this time around.

"I think this is going to continue, you know, even through the primary season, but even after the conventions, North Carolina is going to be viewed as a potential purple state. Even though it is lean red," Huffmon said. "I think North Carolina is going to be a target for the National Democratic Party, especially because of down-ticket races."
