KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The Kannapolis Intimidators have unveiled the baseball team's new name.
The group will now be called the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. A big street festival and fireworks show took place for the big announcement on Wednesday evening.
The minor league ballclub took suggestions from the public on the new moniker and made the change before moving into their new ballpark in 2020. The venue sits on land that formerly housed Cannon Mills, the world’s largest textile factory.
According to the team, Cannon Ballers represents both the history of Kannapolis and the carnival-like atmosphere the team plans to provide at its new ballpark, while the logo set offers subtle nods to Dale Earnhardt and his legacy.
The Cannon Ballers will take the field in Kannapolis on April 16, 2020, at 7 p.m.
